Kathy and I grew up in the Parkwood Area. She lived down the street from my grandmothers house next to the "Big open field" that as kids we used to get lost in, until dinner time. I used to be afraid of her as a kid because I thought she was mean, but after hanging out at her house or down the street I learned that she wasn't mean at all, and became friends. I had the opportunity to meet her son, who told me that she was ill with cancer, and was heart broken for her and her family. I shared alittle childhood memories with her son and just to see him smile and laugh and say "yeah thats my mom" made my day. Kathy you did well, rest high on the mountain my friend.
I knew Kathy from Eastin Arcola Elementary School. We hung out together in the eight grade. About 15 years ago we were in Longs Drug Store and I could not believe it was her. We got together a couple of weeks later and caught up on years past. When we were in the eight grade, I would go over to her house and at night we would go out, ring door bells, run around another house and hide. I tell this story to my kids all the time, but, I tell them not to do it because this is a different day and age. I am sorry to say that I did not know she was sick, I would have liked to have visited with her. My heart goes out to her family. God bless you.
I knew Kathy since kindergarten also, and we dated many years after her husband passed away, one late night we were sitting in a booth at Denny's on Blackstone and Herndon when two armed men came in with shotguns, she dove beneath the table fearing for her two young children growing up without a Mother, That actually was her biggest fear in life.
My memories of her are all fond, she wore a beautiful smile always, and I pray that her son's have been able to overcome this tragic loss, Jimmy,
